The Ultimate Home Remedy: Sari's Witches Brew

You know the feeling: scratchy throat, stiff muscles, headachey, tired, stingy eyes... yep, admit it - you're getting sick!  I've been in denial for the last 3 days and have even been somewhat successful at ignoring my symptoms for a couple of those days, but tonight I had to finally stir up a batch of Sari's Witches Brew.  Sari is from Toronto and one of my fave pals ever - her ability to pound limitless litres of wine and run a marathon the next day never fails to amaze me!  The year I contracted the dreaded H1N1, Sari gave me her recipe for this immunity brew, which we re-named the Witches Brew because of its less than complimentary ingredients.  I know what some of you are going to think when you see the combo of ingredients, but trust me, this works!!  (in case you are wondering, I actually like the taste, but that could be because I am Ukrainian and I loves me my garlic!)

Sari's Witches Brew
Ingredients:
boiling water
1 clove garlic, sliced thinly
1 inch piece of ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
juice of half a lemon
2 tbsp liquid honey

Method:
Add all ingredients in a cup and top with boiling water.  Steep for 5-10 minutes.  Drink it up.  Drink more if you can handle it - as much as you can.  Go to sleep.  If this does not work for you, chug a bottle of nyquil, put on a jogging suit and sleep for 10 hours.

  1. When I was younger, I had a friend whose mother was from Albania. She used a concoction similar to this one, but added a shot of alcohol (brandy? whisky?). She used the "medicine" even for children who felt ill. It worked, and it worked well. Hope you are feeling better tomorrow.
